I am Casey’s Uncle Andy and this is a recollection of a “milestone” uncle-niece interaction. Five, maybe 6 years ago (03′- 04′), we were sitting at the island in the kitchen of the Feldman house in Springfield as she leafed through a magazine and pointed out that all of the celebrity photos were touched up. I then responded with what I thought was an insightful comment on the negative implications of media-manipulated reality. Casey politely let me rant then cut to the quick with the following gem, punctuating it with an adorable eye roll: “Uncle Andy, why do you always have to be so didactic?” Humbled, and yet delighted by her disarming observation, I realized right then and there that I could learn a lot from my darling niece. Small wonder with her vocabulary that she scored 800 on the verbal SAT!
