In addition to being close with Casey on a friendship level, I also worked alongside her on The Observer. As Layout Editor, Casey, the News Editor, would often have to send me e-mails requesting articles to be re-dropped, cut, or changes to be made. She always said “please” and ended her “professional” requests with something like “thanks boo!!” I’d usually joke around with her when she sent me an Observer-related e-mail… She’d ask something simple like “Can you please re-drop this story?” and I’d just write back “No,” usually as I was doing whatever simple request she had asked.
The following is an e-mail exchange we had on November 18, 2008.
Casey Feldman to me
can you re-drop this?? thanks boo <33
Brooke Burdge to Casey
i didn’t get a please.
Casey Feldman to me
damn girl i figured the heart would be good enough to represent my pure and loving intentions and that the please would be implied. but anyway… ma’am can you please re-drop this? thank you.
Brooke Burdge to Casey
that is better. a leftward-facing arrow combined with the numeral for three are not significant enough of love and respect for me. you remember that in the future. that is all.
Casey Feldman to me
Hahah girl are you cracked out on energy drinks again?
Brooke Burdge to Casey
nah, just life. see you tomorrow!!
Casey had a great way of balancing working with her friends in a professional setting.
